Important Answers to Common Questions About Hypnosis

Q. Can Anyone Be Hypnotized?

A.  Yes. Actually, hypnosis is a natural state of mind, and everyone slips in and out of light stages of hypnosis every single day of their lives.

Q. Is it possible for someone that is hypnotized, not to be able to be woken up…or can a person get stuck in a state of hypnosis?

A. Impossible! For a person to remain in a state of hypnosis requires constant suggestion and reinforcement. If someone was put into a deep state of hypnosis and the hypnotist left the room for a period of time, the subject would realize something was wrong and wake up, or they would just slip into a natural sleep, take a short nap and wake up on their own. At that point, they absolutely will not be in a state of hypnosis.

Q. When the show is over, can any of the volunteers be made to respond to suggestions, or are the volunteers really awake and in full control?

A. When the show is over, no one can walk up to a volunteer and say sleep and cause that volunteer to go into a state of hypnosis any more than if they said sleep to that same volunteer before the show, unless the volunteer wants to be hypnotized.  Following the show, all participants will be wide-awake and in complete control of their facilities.

Q. Is hypnosis dangerous?

A. No, hypnosis is not dangerous when practiced by a licensed practitioner. However, this trade is no different than any other. For instance, dentistry is completely safe, but if practiced by a self-taught, nonlicensed, dentist there would be obvious risks! The same is true of a hypnotist that is not legitimately trained and licensed. Utilizing this type of hypnotist can have an adverse effect on the hypnotized individuals, the show and your business.

Q. What type of “adverse” effects on the individuals?

A. Creating feelings of apprehension, nervousness, negative emotional responses, technically known as abreactions.

Q. Can a hypnotist make someone do something against their will?

A. Absolutely not! At all times, a person has absolute power to accept or reject any suggestion that they wish.

Q. Will someone hypnotized tell secrets and do things they regret?

A. Nobody will do anything against their moral nature.

Q. Will a person divulge secrets or personal information they don’t want anyone to know about when they are in a state of hypnosis?

A. Hypnosis is not like truth serum. When a person is in a state of hypnosis, they have absolute power to lie or keep the same secrets as they do when they are wide awake.
